782 hydro breather valve

Hi all! New to this forum. We bought a house and it came with a Cub Cadet 782 Hydro with mowing deck, snowblower as well as a grate.

I am trying to do some maintenance work on the tractor but am having an "oups" moment because I removed the cover for the crankcase breather valve and mine seems to have some kind of metal umbrella valve in there (as opposed to the rubber one I see on internet). I should have taken a picture before removing it from it's place but forgot! Now I wonder on what side I should put it...

I think it's the wider side down (as in the picture I just took) but am not sure.

Also, should I force it a little so that it sits in the metal base or just leave it loose on top of it?

I ordered a few parts to do a basic maintenance (breaker points, condenser, gasket for that valve cover as well as the mesh filter). Already changed the plugs, coil... Hoping it will run better once this is done!

I tried to look up the parts diagram but see there are a couple
different air cleaner setups so don't want to steer you wrong.

If you go to the Cub parts lookup on the banner at the top of
home page you can look up the parts image for the breather assembly.

You can also find the manual for your tractor in the manuals lookup
on the site here. For me the manual is the most useful tools in
all my shop for owning these machines.

I'm quite new with this tractor and this site... I have been on the cub parts but can't seem to find the correct way to find my model... which is a 782 Hydro.

I did looked through the manual and all I see is the rubber model and mine is metal... Maybe it's not factory, IDK... From the shape of the rubber one though, I think I should put the wider base towards the engine and the smaller base up... Will continue to research... I know there have been a redesign of the whole assembly that has a reed valve (which is not the one I have).

Might try to ask the local parts dealer too just in case he can guide me a little!

I think I just figured out looking at the parts diagram... From my understanding, I have the "old" model breather valve and so the metal valve I see is the one in which the rubber umbrella valve (missing when I opened the cover) is supposed to be!

Good to hear you got it figured. So did you figure out how to find
your tractor on the parts lookup. It can be a little hard to find sometimes.
For me anyway. Should be under the Garden Tractors I believe.

Yes! I've ordered the new updated metal plate that comes with the reed valve built in... The project of getting this tractor to run smoothly has just become more involving! haha! I hope it doesn't snow a big storm in the next few days as it's my snowblower!

As for the parts lookup... I still haven't figured out how the system works I guess! I tried looking with the model name (aka 782) and also with the model number of my tractor... no luck yet!

I found this listing under Garden Tractors. Go to the bottom of the
page and it says SEE MORE. About 2/3 of the way down the page
you see your 782 listed with a whole bunch of other models. Hopefully
this is your tractor.
Buy the way I am quite jealous of your 782. I have wanted one for
years and know the odds of finding one in MT are nil.

I did find the parts diagrams with the info you sent. I think my error was I wasn't clicking on the "see more" all the way down!

Very helpful to find the part # and then copy - paste on the canadian cub cadet website!!

Wish you good luck finding your 782!! Sometimes it seems you just seem to need to buy a house and it will come with it! haha!

I actually had no knowledge of these tractors before buying this house but am happy to get to know them and hope to be able to bring it to a level that I am satisfied with!!

Basic parts are ordered for a first step of maintenance... Will try to do an updated post after I did the install!!
