2084 threw a PTO belt and now it won't turn
First big snow in Chicagoland. I'm running a 551 45" snow thrower attachment off the front of my 2084. Snow's on the wetter side but worked fine all the way out to the front of the driveway when the PTO belt popped (snapped and frayed).
I got it shut off and the tractor back to the garage. Picked up a replacement belt at tractor supply, got the new belt back on, but now the PTO won't engage. It's got power, in that when I throw the PTO switch, I can see it try to engage, but it doesn't start spinning, it just clicks. Is my clutch ruined? I've had this machine 2 years and the PTO has been totally fine throughout. I have no experience working with the PTO. Hoping someone has a recommendation? Thanks in advance. |

Does it work with the belt off? Otherwise the bearing may have seized, there are 2.

You need to check the air gap as per the manual.
Look on page 19. https://ia801906.us.archive.org/10/i...103/580103.pdf This is from our tech section. https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30

you might have a piece of the old belt stuck in the pto keeping it from engaging

Check and see if you may have hit something and it'd now caught /jammed in the auger.
Does the auger want to turn by hand? |

Check to see if when it tossed the belt did it rip the wire to the PTO off.

I just had a similar issue with my 2084 and 451 blower. Blower stopped turning and started burning the belt. Shut off and went to re-engage it would kill the motor right away. Took the belt off and blower turned ok, same with the pto. Turns out the idler pulley locked up the turns the belt 180. Installed a new one and back to work.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
