Default Hand Lettering the Hood.

The hood on the 149 is a blank canvass. I will likely have a bead edge on the bottom same as on the rear edge and I may paint the bottom inch or so grey.

I have a friend who is a retired sign maker and hand lettering artist and I’m thinking seriously of having him do the lettering on the hood instead of decals. And in that case, I’d probably not get standard block letters.

What would be your design or configuration of choice? “International” will be featured, for sure.

This was a 71 that I re-powered with a Mag12 a few years ago.

I was thinking along the lines of the 1915-1923 type of lettering, but Sam Mac’s machine is very striking. Is that a premade decal?

There will be a few black and red IH representations. I will probably repaint the grill grey, to contrast a black and red IH. And a couple of decals for the loader as well.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
