Default Why did these older motors not have an oil filter?

Always wondered. Why a transmission but not an engine oil filter? Got me to thinking about it today while changing the oil. I've been changing the trans filter every year of late - probably wouldn't need to since the tractor runs way less than 50 hours a year.

I do not know the engine you are referring to but I assume it is one with no oil pump. No pump means no filter.

My push mower has no filter , splash feed works pretty well so long as you do not mow at an acute angles and change the oil regularly using a good quality oil

A simple splash system, thus no pump no filter.

If you can find a K330 or K331, they have an oil pump, but alas no filter.

It is probably overkill but on my K301s I change the oil a couple times
at least through the summer. Probably amounts to every 10-15 hours.
I figure it is a pretty cheap filter system. Just drain and fill.

Same with some KT17 and maybe even M18 applications.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
