Default Front Axle fun!

I had the front axle on my 782 sandblasted, and I'm now checking it out, etc. I was trying to see if the grease fittings were still good. I tried pumping grease into them, but it was a no-go. But grease did come out on the ends. I did find out—I never knew—that those spacers are removable! I just assumed the bolt was the pivot point.

I assume I can just beat those old inserts out of the axle clean them up, and pop them back in?

Don't "beat " them out, you will mushroom the ends and ruin them.
You need to press them out if they are stuck

That "sleeve" is supposed to be locked to the knuckle by the 1/2" bolt w/castle nut when tightened and turn in the axle casting as an assembly when you steer.
You have some serious cleaning and polishing to do once they are removed

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
