Finally got all the parts in and the tractor runs great.
I ordered new belts from TSC and of course the deck belt was the wrong size, discovered when it kept slipping, a 60.5" belt won't work where a 59" should go. Ordered another one from O'Reily's and it was even longer, 61" this time. Who's the genious that decided a 61" belt should have the PN A59 anyway? They had a Gate's in stock so 3rd time's the charm. New fire stick and fuel filter, installed the (correct) deck belt, air filter & cover on. The base plate cover (the black plastic one) didn't get installed as the holdy screw is too short. If I can find the bracket with a longer screw... I discovered part of the hard starting problem (have to crank it for awhile) was due to a crack in the fuel line between the filter and motor. There was enough slack so snipped that out, I'll snag some new line and change out the whole thing from the tank forward soonish. Fired it up and made a test cut then handed off to my bride to take her tractor out for a spin. Tractor $450 Parts ~$150 ish Seeing that big smile on my Ukrainian babuska's 62 y/o face as she drives & operates a machine for the first time in her life. PRICELESS! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
