Belt comes off when Disengaging PTO
Hello everyone,
I've got a 2013 LGTX1050 in pretty good shape. I'm having an issue with the mower BELT coming off when i turn OFF the electric PTO. The belt stays on while engaging, and stayed on for two hours while I mowed the yard, but when I turn the electric PTO off the belt comes off, and the belt keeper doesn't even keep it around the PTO, so I have to remove the belt keeper to re-install the belt. Otherwise the mower runs great. The mower spindles are all new, the idle pulley's are new, and everything spins freely. Anyone willing to throw out some ideas to help me troubleshoot? |

I'm having an issue with the mower blade coming off when i turn OFF the electric PTO.
I can help with 1/2 your problem. Put the blade back on and tighten the bolt a lot tighter than you have been. And see if the threads are bad on the bolt or the hole its in. Having a blade come off at speed can be deadly!! |

Are you using the recommended belt? A lot of aftermarket belts create problems and don't last long.

I meant the belt. That was a scary typo! I edited my original post to show that the belt is coming off, not the blade! |

I've had a lot of issues with this used mower, from the previous owner really screwing it up.It used to eat belts every 5 hours or so. I discovered it has the wrong spindles on it, one of the idle pulleys was wrong, and the two rear arms that the deck hangs from were installed in the wrong location so they had the wrong size belt on it. After fixing all those things the mower runs great, cuts really nice, but the belt falls off when I turn off the PTO. The only other thing I have left to try is the location of the pin on the deck that holds the spring for the idler arm pulley. There are two holes on the deck near each other, and the pin is in the hole that would make the spring less tight than the other hole. There is tension when the belt is installed, but I'm not sure how much tension it needs. The only way I can think of to describe this better is if there is no belt on the mower, then the idler arm is free, and the spring has no tension on it in this position. If I used the other hole, the spring would have tension on it, and when I put the belt on it would have quite a lot of tension on it. Not sure if that makes sense. |

Are you idling it down before turning off the deck?

I've never run into this particular problem, so I may be way off base, but just thinking it through, it seems to me that the only way for this to happen is that the belt is too long, or it is not tight. Are there any idler pulleys? Are they on right, springs holding it tight?
Just spitballing a few things that come to mind. |

No. Didn't see anything in the operating manual about that. I was looking at the belt routing, deck height, etc, and thought that raising the deck and idling down would minimize the issue. I'll try that.
Thanks. |

I'm gong to move the pin that holds the idle pulley spring to the other hole which will make the belt tighter. Edit: I forgot to answer the second part of your message. There are two idle pulleys. One is fixed, one is on a lever with a spring. The belt is pretty tight. I double checked the belt length. Parts manual says it should be 134". I measured it at 134" to confirm I got the right one. |

Another quick question..... when I disengage the PTO, should the blades and belt stop turning IMMEDIATELY or should it take a second or two as the brake on the PTO slows them down?
I am almost positive that they used to stop immediately but noticed this afternoon that it now stops in about 2 seconds, and the belt stays on. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
