Default Reverse switch failing?

While cutting grass reverse stopped working suddenly. Tried to move the key several times to reengage but had to cut remaining grass going forward only. The red light did not turn on and pushing the reverse button on the dash did nothing either. Turned mower off, let it cool, then rinsed the top of cutting deck as I always do. Started it back up and now it works fine. Is there a switch failing? If so, where is this switch? This is a XT1 LT42 (2015). See my signature.

My first consideration would be the condition of the connection of the plug/pins on the RMC module.
Are all the contacts in the plug clean, are the pins on the RMC clean, does the plug snap on nice and tight?

Is the connection to the key switch loose? Or does it have dirty contacts?

I had the same problem, for me the fix was pushing the connection back onto the key switch, over time it had vibrated loose and wasn't making a good connection.

I see I doubled with ironman. Didn't really need to post this.

I assume the key cover just pops off carefully with a screwdriver?

Ok, I did find info on how to remove the module online.

I should have mentioned earlier that the original key switch did not require me to turn the key to the left yellow area and press the reverse button to turn the light on to go in reverse and cut grass. I can just start it up and go forward and reverse without moving the key at all. I just replaced the switch in case the old one might be failing, and I still don't have to move the key/press the reverse button to go in reverse. All is working fine though. I have never modified anything other than replace this switch today and replace the PTO cutting blade cable that had broken.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
