That looks good to me. I think I would paint the housings silver or maybe the beige body color.

They are just glued in with silicone. Probably better ways to do it, but I guess it works.

Thats good to know if I totally destroy one but In my h.o. its a bad design, the stand offs are too weak from the get go. For me to spend the money on a new one thats gonna break again is not worth it. I'm going with plan "b"

In all fairness, the newest of these machines are 20 years old, mine are 25 and 30. I figured they earned the right to a new one, so I new ones as they became unfixable. But I'm still working on rebuilding the one shown in the other thread, just for a backup.

In my experience most of the breakage of these grills is from bumping trees and such. A bumper and additional care will prevent most of that. I have a lot of trees and awkward places to mow. I built a simple bumper for my 2084. I need to do that for the 1864 which does the mowing.

As for the headlight and hood standoffs, I suspect checking them for cracks and snugging the screws will delay that significantly. Most of all raise the hood when you kill the engine to release the heat, and store it covered.
