Default 1282 Hydrostatic Leak

Hello,
I noticed that some oil accumulating around the back of my transmission cover, I pulled it off and I didn’t see anything that really jumped out at me as being a point of failure. The only place I noticed is the input shaft being a little damp, the top of the trans seems to be more coated in oil though. So my questions are,
1.) is there any other place on these that commonly leaks?
2.) How difficult is this part to replace?
I haven’t looked in any parts books/service manuals yet to see how it all comes apart yet. One thing that’s been on my list the past few months is to service the hydro anyway so now is as good a time as any, I’ll pick up a filter while I’m at it.
After this issue is fixed I’m planning to pull the deck off and refresh it and repaint it.
Thanks!

Looking at your pictures... it seems pretty dry to me. It is normal to have very minor seepage where dirt/grass accumulate around it over long period of time.

You didn't show pictures of oil on your back cover. There's an oil reservoir behind that. Was there wet film or was it simply seepage that dirt/grass accumulated over time? What about oil on floor where you park? If there's just minor seepage , I'm not concern about it. Where there's wet film or drops on floor.... I'd be paying attention. Common areas of leaks are cork gasket and relief valves.

Agree with Billy-O.
Quit looking for monsters hiding under the bed and get started on the deck.

I think I may have misspoke on where the leak is, The place I was trying to describe is the "center driveshaft cover" between the seat and dash. You can slightly see where there is some film/oil on the frame in the second picture. I'll try to grab some better pictures this evening.
I think relief valves may be a decent bet, as they do seem to have some oil and accumulation on them.

If it is the valves you can send them to our Sponsor and have them rebuilt.

See Machtech Direct above.

This was my first thought too when looking at the pictures. I would spray it with degreaser, and rinse it off, if you don't have a pressure washer a garden hose will do. If it's not getting wet with oil to the point of dripping on the floor there's no point trying to find and fix such a small seepage. It may have taken years to get that dirty. Additionally, I see more rust than oil.

Clean it up good and keep an eye on it.
I see nothing ion those pictures to be overly concerned with at this time.

Alright, well thank you all for your advice and help. I guess I was just a little overly paranoid about it. I'll be sure to degrease and clean it well and keep a check on it.
One more question regarding this though is, At full RPM the hydro will not move, it doesn't really whine either. If I back off of the throttle it will start to move normally. I have verified that the fluid is at the correct level.
Thanks!

When was the trans fluid and filter last changed? What do you have for a filter on it?

Will not move both ways, forward and back? Or one way? If it's one way, it could be one of the two relief valves.

Both ways: Could be broken/lost pin(s) in driveshaft. Or it could be time to replace oil filter. It is important to use the proper filter.

One way: swap the relief valves and see if that swaps the problem.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
