1772 tractor 450 or 451 snowblower
I have a 1772 Cub Cadet, and the manual states it will accept a model 450 Snowblower. However, I might have access to a model 451 snowblower. I noticed that the gear boxes in each unit are geared differently: The 451 has a 12:31t & the 450 has a 15:28t. I'm told that the tractors that accept the 451 have a PTO pulley of 4.625" dia. BUT, the 1772 pto pulley is 6" dia.
Could somebody help me in determining the difference in the rpm given the above information? |

The 451 gear box is for tractors with the larger pulley. Are you sure that the 1772 has the larger pulley? I am 90% sure it came stock with the smaller pulley.

TractorDan-
If you've got a 6" pulley then you need a 451. It would have come from the factory with a smaller pulley, but perhaps the clutch broke and was replaced with a later clutch from a 1782 or something like that. Whoever told you the 451 is used with the smaller pulley has it bassackwards. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
