Work on a K301 12hp Kohler
Just wondering if it is possible to re-thread or helicoil (sp?) the front two motor mounting bolts on a 12hp Kohler. Thanks in advance for your comments!!

Yup you should be able too, i put helicoils in an aluminum pan for 2 of the mounts for my 1250 still holds without a problem.

Probally will last longer than just running a bolt into the alum threads like the factory way

It should work well if the hole isn't too wallowed out.
Check the hole size by drilling with the correct bit for your helicoil. You should have all fresh cut metal on the walls. Countersink the hole slightly, and install the helicoil so the lead thread is below where the countersink ends. Use 1.5 Diameter helicoil at least. Be sure to break off the tang and retrieve it. Very important step. Good Luck!

Thanks guys!!! I am missing my front two bolts on my engine mounts and now I know why. I spoke to a local mechanic and he said something about maybe sleeving it, but I'm not 100% sure on what he was talking about so I will need to look into the matter some more.
Thanks again, Cub Cadet 123

sleeving it would be to drill out the hole to make it smooth and round, then press in a threaded sleeve, or a solid plug then drill / tap it. I would prefer helicoiling it. Just don't drill past existing bottom of hole.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
