Default SLT 1554 power loss

Hello

This may be the final straw. I have an 2003 cub I bought used a couple years ago with 112 hours on the digital meter. The first season it did fine at the beginning of the second season I noticed it started smoking badly upon startup but would go away quickly. In the middle of the season it died on me I traced the problem to the charging system the rectifier was pushing 21v changed that and a new battery but unfortunately forgot to hook up the ground bracket to the side of the mower and would only get a couple mowes between manual battery charges. Start of the third season (this year) I sent it to the shop they fixed the ground issue in 3 min then "did the season service" the very next mow the drive belt broke. what a wonderful design that was to make less than easy replacement. Got that replaced then noticed my engine was burning oil like crazy! Cleaned the air filters that were all allegedly replaced smoking seemed to be less however oil was about a quart low. added oil did fine the next mow. one mow later with the grass a little damp every time the mower got into the least little bit of grass the motor boggs down to the point of almost dieing. PTO off no issues up hill down hill where ever. PTO on struggle on level ground does fine down hill. pulled deck greased everything checked belt not noticeable resistance in pulley or belt movement. Im at my end with it. I figured id make one last attempt for suggestions on this site and if nothing came back its going to the fire pile. Its getting fuel. I lubricated the governor even took the belt off the clutch and tried the hill with the pto on it climbed right up not much power loss at all. Im slightly worried the oil may have been to low and ive damaged the cylinders causing compression loss however it starts super easy and again as long as the pto is not engaged it pulls hard no problems even hills i would not normally hit. sorry this was so long however i wanted to give the accurate run down of my issues if you got this far down in the post even if you dont reply thanks for reading. Please if you have any suggestions let me know.

Thanks

Larc

You might want to check your pto clutch. Sounds to me like maybe a tight bearing or the clutch itself is not adjusted right.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
