I finished paing small parts black yesterday, Today more assembly. Also I call my paint supplier where I have been buying my primers and clears. I asked him about using his Urethane 2K clear over IH 2150 Red with hardener added. He stated that they do it all of the time. Just make sure to use the correct amount of hardener in the color, wait at least 8 hrs up to 48 hrs and spray with clear. So I know that I am good to go on that. I have had very good luck with adding hardener to the IH paint it has a great shine and dries fast but still stains easy. The clear will stop that and make it more durable. Here are some pictures I found on the net of red and black painted supers. I have to say I like them all. I think I will start with the white wheels and if I want I can spray them silver later after I decide on a color scheme for the mover deck. My son thinks I should spray the mower deck black with red shields and mule drive.

Just a quick update. I finished the assembly of the chassis and have started on rewiring. With the help of RBedell I have a wiring diagram to allow me to convert the wiring to use the Command EFI engine and it's computer. If the PO had not butchered up the wiring it would be easy but as it is I had to completely strip the old harness down to replace about two thirds of the wiring that was hacked. I am glad I have the harness from the doner 1864 to use for the proper colors and plug ins. I am running the wires one circuit at a time and it is working out fine. I will be connecting all safety switches as I have grandkids who will be running it. Also I ordered a 180 deg u bend of 1-1/4 exh tubing so I can rework the muffler to allow it to exit through the grille, right now it is a side exit and I do not want to put a hole through the side cover. Once it is wired I can install the fuel tank and start it up to check out the Hydro etc. Hope to post some progress pictures tonight. Later
Tom

I have been working on the rewiring of the 1872 to use the Command EFI Command engine. Today I finally got some time to get it mostly finished. I just need to get some more split covering for part of it and mount the rear fenders to run the tail light wires and it will be finished and I can start it up to check out the hydro and hydraulic system. Next step will be to final sand and paint the sheet metal that will be painted red. Some pictures for you.

Zip ties are a life saver. Only thing it is getting hard to find quality zip ties. Many of them today are cheap plastic and will break if you pull on them hard. One thing I wish I had done different on the wiring is I should have cut 1/2 inch lengths of large shrink tubing and ran the wire bundles through them and then when I was finished I could have heat shrunk them to keep the wire runs tight and organized before I installed the covering. Today I hope to install the fuel tank and wire up the electric fuel pump and then test the wiring circuits with the computer unhooked and if all checkout I will do a test run of the engine and check out the hydro and get the linkages adjusted. Might just have to do a short test drive.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Tom

Can't get quality in much of anything these days.
The shrink wrap idea would of been a great way to go, but as in most good ideas, they come along after the fact...
Good luck with the smoke test, less the smoke part.

Default Finally an update, it lives

ll I finally got some free time to work on the 1872. I finished up the wiring and got it organized and covered, hooked up the fuel line and filter and installed the battery. I left the EFI computer un-plugged until I had a chance to test out the wiring, everything works and it passed the smoke test. I then plugged in the computer and switched the key on the fuel pump primed up and shut off like it is supposed to. Turned the key and it fired right up and died. I tried again and it started on the first turn, sputtered a few times and settled down to a smooth idle. I checked for leaks and found one hydraulic line leaking, tightened it up and all is good. I then backed it out of the shop and took it for a spin. Brought it back into the shop and installed a spare fender pan and seat assembly and drove it around some more. This is the quietest Cub Cadet I have ever ran. The steering is tight and precise and everything works very well. Hydro is quiet and very responsive with out being jerky. Today I will hitch up a steel three point drag I have and use it to level up the garden. I will try to get some pics of it out working. Next I need to final sand the sheet metal and paint it and it should be ready to start mowing grass.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
