Here's the idea. Let's see how close I can get. Since my 148R is not a hydro, it will have the gear-drive 1066/1466 look.

The '82 series used the "black stripe" style decal on them and it looked really good! You going to wrap it up the hood like the b-stripe on the 10?

I'm just finishing up the fuel system, hope to have it running in a few days. I think I seated the welch plugs too deep in the walbro carb, so I need to replace them (they are blocking fuel flow I think). First experience with one of these carbs. Live and learn. Then need to move on to the the grill and headlight details. Then paint the stripes and apply the decals. I have some lettering already, but not sure they are the right size yet. Will probably have to have them made up. My Firestone tri-ribs showed up today, so I need to mount them and put them on.

The 148R is running. Had to swap out the fixed jet Walbro for an adjustable jet Walbro to get it running. Not sure what the problem was with the other carb.
Took it out around the driveway to verify clutch, brakes, gears and creeper operation., Everything seems to be working as it should. I've managed to totally destroy two PTO fiber buttons. They just melted in a couple minutes. I've had others do the same thing before--self destruct in a few minutes--while others seem to last years. What's up with that? Here's some pics.

Looks great with the tri ribs on. The fiber buttons won't last long without a belt on the PTO to keep it from turning when you disengage the PTO. Be sure to engage the PTO when there's not a belt on there. I forgot to do that when I first got my red 129 running and nearly ruined my new bronze button. It got so hot that it burnt the paint off of the lever.

Thanks IHinIN, I never thought about the PTO turning w/o a belt and melting the button. That explains it. OK, learn something every day! That's why I'm here.

If you had a brake style PTO then it would keep the pulley from spinning when the PTO is disengaged. If you have the PTO safety switch hooked up then you'll have to disengage the PTO to start the engine and then engage it once it's running.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
