Been painting tins waiting on some parts. Ordered front tires and tubes. Might be able to start the engine tomorrow using a battery jump pack. Decided I need to order some decals now.
Pics next time.

A little more progress, but didn't start the engine yet. Painted the dash tower, hood and nose piece IH white and assembled the hood and nose, test fit it on the tractor. Not enough clearance above the air cleaner, so I shimmed up the bottom grill from the frame with some washers and gained an eighth inch clearance. Might add a couple more. Not sure why some pictures show the hood and grill bright white--everything is IH white.
Put some after market lights on the rear as well, but need to wire everything up. I need another ground wire from the frame to the engine. the throttle cable turned bright red when I tried to test crank the engine using the installed battery. Apparently, that's the only path from ground to the engine without the extra ground cable! Yikes. Probably could have put gas in it and started it up with a jump pack, but the weather this weekend here on the east coast has been crappy, got some ice and sleet, so didn't want to smell up the shop with exhaust. Waiting on seat, decals, engine heat shield/muffler support, front tires, light switch, all ordered and shipped but not yet delivered. Need to go get some more quick disconnect crimp connectors to finish the wiring to the lights.

Got the K301 heat shield/muffler support yesterday and did some test fitting with the existing head sheet metal shroud. Cut some new holes in the existing shroud to permit mounting the new part. Need some longer head bolts to take the spacers into account.

Spent a little time last night putting new (longer) head bolts on to account for the spacers needed to accommodate the muffler support/heat shield. Then I ran a ground wire (#4AWG) from the battery ground bolt back by the battery all the way up to the engine starter bolt. Figured this is better than a "local" ground to the frame at the starter.
Put gas in the tank, cranked it up and it ran fine. I had the rear end on jack stands, so I adjusted the neutral setting on the hydro. Ran it for about five minutes with the front and back doors open to the shop. Noticed that one of the hydro release valve is leaking fluid and bubbles out the top. Also, the connections on the back of the ignition switch are flaky, so I need to remove and clean that to get reliable operation. The hydro lift seems to work OK-I was concerned because the spool was stiff before, seems to be OK now. So I ordered a pair of new relief valves (I'll send this set off to be rebuilt). And went and sprung for a set of new brake pads as well. Ouch. (Need this tractor to be trouble free for the kids--that's a tall order for a 40 year old tractor .Oh, and the seat came from Northern Tool. For $99 it's identical to the $130 seat I've been buying elsewhere. Front tires arrived from Miller Tire as well. So I'll mount those and paint all the wheels while I'm waiting on the other parts. Pics next time.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
