Since I started messing with the 1864, I've looked at a few of the newer CC machines at big box stores. Absolutely no comparison in quality.
I'll certainly take care of the one I have.
Amazing the stuff people spend money on these days.

We just got a new Cub dealer here. Haven't been over there yet but may go just to see what's there.

To be fair, what I looked at was the X1, which is the lower end of the series. There is an X2 and an X3 that are commercial and may be much better quality but I cant speak to those.

I decided to take Sams advice and I ordered a set of the GT braces from Extreme. Holy crap, $26 to ship a couple of steel brackets is absurd!! It is what it is though.

For anyone that's interested in another source for V61 tires, I saw them on the Extreme site as well, although a bit more expensive than Miller.

Anyhow, Im going to wind up pulling the rear end on this thing. The one thing I havnt done yet is replace the hydro fluid and filter. The rear end is covered in crud from seepage somewhere. No drips at all but definitely some seepage. I suppose I should go ahead and reseal this thing and drill the return holes so I have a few questions.....

Ive never been in the rear end of a tractor before. Ive read through Sams threads and it looks pretty straightforward. Is it something I can do in a day though?

Anyone have parts numbers on hand for the seals and gaskets that need replaced in the rear end? Where is the best place to order those? I know Ive seen Sam post the numbers before but I cant find them now.

This may be a dumb question but how do I get the oil out of the cylinders, lines and pump?

This is a vented system, correct? So after I reseal it and replace the oil, there is no bleeding process to go through?

This is the list of all the seals, O-rings and gaskets that I recently bought for the 2182 that I'm resurrecting

921-3015 Gasket, Rear Cover

SU-9008000-7505 seal 1 (CR7443)

SU-9008000-6201 seal 1 (CR6204) number changed to 6904

You won't need the hydro seals unless you plan on doing the pump but you'll most likely need the others (in red). You should check parts tree or the Cub site to make sure these are the correct parts for your machine.

Forget trying to get the oil out of the cylinders, your only talking about a couple cups of oil at most.

Once your done fill it and light it up.

Can you do it in one day? I can but I've done more of them than I care to think about.

I ordered mine thru the Cub site. Pricing was about the same, but shipping was a lot cheaper.

Started messing with the lights today since neither the headlights nor tail lights work. The bulbs are missing for the tail lights and the wires are cut off for the headlights. The headlights are the single molded light in the grill with two twist in bulbs in back that take connectors. (Think I recall someone saying he 1864 had couple different styles of headlights) Anyhow, anyone know if the connector is something standard that I can buy somewhere? The wires are there. Cut off at the frame. If I recall, there are two wires, (blue,purple?) cut off and capped at the frame. I assume these are the wires to the headlights.
