I just read through all the new posts and watched your videos. It is sounds and acts as the same as my 1864 when I lost a ignition module a few weeks ago. I think that is going to solve your issues. When you install the new ones, make sure you install the them to the spec's in the service manual.

Thanks, I found them on the bay for $43 bucks. Is that the best price Im going to find? Cant remember the brand but says they are the same manufacturer that makes the OEM Kohler coils.

its your money but i would never buy something like that off ebay, i would rather pay a little more and go straight to the cub dealer.

I bought mine off of Ebay, but they were OEM, from a dealer. When I got them they were what they said they were. That seller does not have anymore. There are several sellers that have them and say they are OEM.

If the seller has a good history on EBAY then I wouldn't worry. If you have ever sold anything on Ebay then you know the buyers have lots of protection. There are always exceptions but an established seller has way more to lose than 43 bucks on a bad transaction.

Ive bought and sold lots on Ebay. Never had an issue. OEM is OEM right? Im going to call my dealer tomorrow but based on the fact that most of the prices Im seeing online are about 75 bucks, my dealer will want 90. The nice thing about my dealer is he typically has everything in stock or can have it the next day but his prices are something else.

I just realized there are currently 3 threads about 1864's with ignition problems. Looks like the life expectancy of the coils are at least consistent!

Yep, guess bad things come in threes.

I was surprised how tight the air gap was on my coils. I expected it to be wider but guess it is right as the spec I found calls for .011" to .013".

Mine seemed to be a little tight at .009.

Hello, i know a man who works for MTD, he's there trouble shootin mech. He told me the tighter the coil set, the more advanced the timing. I forgot exactly what he said, maybe 2 advanced for 1 tighter, it wasn't much. I bought a 18 hour 25hp off him once and would go back again. He liked free horsepower improvement. Most of the one's i've seen are set around 9 or 10k. Mike

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
