In '58 they went to side motor mounts and thin wall casting, so +.060 was all that you could go safely.
moot point now as it was too long ago for most younger fellows.

Those 1 year only 1955 blocks, that we didn't like back in the day, now command a good price because of restorers wanting numbers matching correct parts.

Gm knew the "boys" were coming back from Korea with a lot of saved $$ and wanting something better than a stove bolt 6 or a flathead ford.
so they started a tradition of building affordable speed parts at dam near cost, for the small block equipped sedans and hard tops.
And it worked, you could afford Cams ,dual quads, dual point ignition, any rear gear ratio you wanted all the way to 5:88 on gas station jockey wages, or a grocery bagger.
You could build a 1/4 mile sedan that you shifted @ 7500 rpm and ran the low 14's on a budget.
the rest is history, a wonderful time to grow up.
Played with many of the 265s I was actually referring to the 262 those little guys loved taking some boost with a nice set of heads.

Man you never know when to shut up jmech you proved you cannot even answer basic trans questions , that everyone saw you bomb on ,those were easy ones, you must be a fake it till You make it ,kind of guy
If a real trans guy saw you do not measure the input shaft end play he would put you back to just changing filters ....pitiful
You arent like 20yrs old.....right

I gotta say this. Jon and I don't see eye to eye often. He zigs I Zag. We butt heads. We get into it... But Green4acres. Ill tell ya this. Your test that took you week or more to compile is BS on so many levels. Its not what daily mechanics store in RAM "term of the week thanks to Lance LOL" Much of it was crap some teacher included in a class to hear himself talk and to make sure the students were listening. Why would any mechanic need to know the biggest last 2 innovative additions to automatic transmissions. I mean one would be the introduction of computers.. Ok any mechanic these days would know that but why does he or she need to know that it happened in the 80's? Who cares when that innovation took place? Will knowing that help me to repair it? Some of your questions were very subjective. That means a fact based answer was not the only answer. Opinion could fall into some of the answers by how they were worded.

I do not know in what world you think you have more knowledge than Jon.. I doubt you have more knowledge than Mudrig. Your test is BS and I am pretty sure you are as well. This is why you have not responded to anyone else opinion in this thread.

BTW.. I still hate you Jon.. But not as much as I use to LOL

I like the banter of talking GMs but the back and forth flashing and bashing of credentials is getting old. Lets get this 4l80 back together and maybe share some tips and tricks to make one better. I have one too so I’d like to hear and see about that. My last one got built with some trans go stuff in it and some other goodies.

Let’s face it there are some of us that know what we are doing and have been doing it for a long time and there’s some pretty decent techs here that are in the shadows too. I like reading that “what do you do for a living” thread. That one opened my eyes to a lot of guys here that specialize in one thing but aren’t great at another but I have respect for what they do because some of the stuff they throw out there is pretty impressive too.

Very cool, one of my favorite planes to watch take off. Have a lot of equipment sold and rented at Newburgh Stewart and see them all the time there. They have some pretty cool hangers there for them as well.

Well the trans is back together and bolted in the truck. T-case is on, and that's basically it. Have to wrap up all the braces, shafts, exhaust bla, bla, bla. Maybe another hour before I start it, if I don't fix a couple other things first. Need to run holler at a guy this evening, but hoping to wrap it up tonight. I'll update when I fire it up.

Don't worry. I'm done with green acres. I thought it was a serious thing at first. Now I see he's just trolling. I don't mind a good debate, but only when it's with and intellectual equal.
