New wheel weights and chains on Super #2
I put the 54" snow plow on 1872 #2 for snow relocation this Winter. This Super has 3 pt. and PTO so no convenient way to add weight w/o raising and lowering a weight box each time I raise or lower the snow blade. I decided to look for some wheel weights to add so that I reduce the tire spin and not ware out the new 2 link chains on my cement drive. It was rather depressing to see the steel weights (~29 pounds each) going for $150. plus and adding shipping on top of that. I spotted these MTD 50 pound weights on Amazon and free shipping at $126. plus tax to add a 100 pounds to the rear.
https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Parts...+wheel+weights They fit up real tight on the Super wheels and not seated all the way into the wheel recess so the included threaded rod was too short for mounting. I used 10" carriage bolts to do the job - just right! Carriage bolt heads had to be ground down on one quadrant so they would clear the brake disk. Slip in the box said they are for 23" X 12". I'm real pleased with the way it turned out but surprised that mounting the weights was more involved than putting on the new chains today. A week ago I plowed 4" of the white stuff but it wasn't without a lot of tire spin, now I'm ready for snow. |

Came home after work and used the 1650 with the leaf vac to clean up the yard.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
