Hood Constraint
I was tired of having to place a soft surface between the hood and grille of my 73 to prevent further dents to the hood and paint damage to the grille. So, I installed a hood restraint that only allows the hood to rotate about 10-20 degrees past the balance point. Simple and effective. Was there anything on the 73 from the factory that was supposed to do this? As seen in the pix, I used a short length of 1" strapping. I anchored one end under the rear-most hood ornament screw and the other end under the top of the voltage regulator bracket. Harder to see is the fold at the regulator end, into which I inserted a short length of coat hanger wire to spread the load across the strapping instead of concentrating it at the bolt hole.

Rebuilt the mule drive brackets, installed new mule drive pulleys,installed the 3 point hitch, tiller gearbox and belt on the cub cadet 107.
the small mule drive bracket hole was egged out bad on both mule drives i had for the quick attach nf. welded up the holes where they were egged out and drilled new holes. One f my mule drives had the mule drive shaft welded on and one had it pinned on. ended up making one out of two using the best parts from the two. out of 6 used mule drive pulleys I had did not trust them with this tiller belt ($$$). I checked belt clearance and the belt was rubbing the transmission case. I was able to adjust the tiller pulley. Tomorrow going to get out the 71, and borrow the IH spring assist from that tractor. I have a Brinly spring assist for it, when I get another 3 point hitch or take the one off the 123. I need to swap the chains and wheel weights over from the 123 also.

got the spring assist from the 71, then took it for a spin around the yard, going to have to work on the carb. the spring assist is on the 107 now and the chains and 2 sets of IH weights on the 107 now, just have to mount the tiller now.
found a 3 point hitch i forgot I bought yrs ago, going to paint it and mount it on the cub cadet 71 with the brinly spring assist. theres a national shortage of rustoleum marigold paint......i cant find one can! got tuscan sun and sunburst yellow. TSC was out of most spray paint too. need some new rear tires, they keep going flat on the 123 and the 107 right rear tire has is rotted so bad the inside sidewall is split. the tube is the only thing keeping it inflated.

Back years ago, I had got a 1211 out of a scrap yard. Today it's now a 1711 , dual hydraulics, 56 snow blade IH, wheel weights IH, back up light, new tire chains, new relief valves and wheel seals, fluid and filter, #30 Caeter carb, Kohler fuel pump,...front and tail lights work, charges battery, hour meter works. Also have good spare engine and Trans. She rocks!

Replaced the head gasket on my 1450 today. It was leaking like a SOB. Running much better now.

Mowed with the 2182 super for the first time. Ran good for an hour. Does seem a little light on power considering it only has the 48 GT deck, but the grass was pretty thick and slightly wet.
Edit: didn't realize there were 2 of these threads.

Got the 123 out of the shed today just to give it a bit of exercise. It is my backup mower, so it doesn't get run a whole lot, in fact it hasn't been started since last October.
It has had a Harbor Freight battery maintainer on it all winter, other than that it had no prep for today's adventure. It started right up first try, took about 2 revolutions, coughed, then took off like it had been running yesterday. Not bad for 55 years old. I ran it and mowed with it for about a half hour before I put it away again. |

The 147 had a catastrophic failure a couple weekends ago. Used it most of the day, and when going to put it away, the entire right side of the loader was sagging.... A quick look underneath, found I had cracked the support tube. Pulled the sheet metal off, and it was cracked about the top half of the tube, and was previously welded there in the past. On both sides of the tractor. Don't know if PO had broken it in the past and welded up, or had to shorten tubes if it came off a different tractor? Either way, I V-notched the busted tube and welded the broken side up, and bent and welded some plates over the weak spots on both sides. Shouldn't have that problem again. And the main man had to help me pull out silt fence posts over the weekend, and that little loader pulls posts better than I do.
