Not long ago I got a PM from CCGuy asking for a pic of the finished tractor. I had to sheepishly admit I never finished it, was just running it with primer!
(ok, by not long ago I mean last Fall..., its just the rate at which I work) Finally got 'a round tuit'. A little body filler - the hood had vertical waves that seemed to me to be stretch marks from the stamping die. Then primer. Then lots of sanding. more primer. Finally this afternoon shot color. Two coats and it covered pretty decent. Light at the end of the tunnel... |

Obligatory run/sag on the left rear.... Always that fine line between getting it to flow out and flooding in a run. For the most part I got it but was just a little dry around this corner and one swipe too much and 15 mins later a nice sag (and still looks slightly dry on the adjacent side!). I used to have a trick where touching a piece of masking tape to it would lift some of the excess, but its been a long time since I have painted much so just left it. Wabi Sabi is what I say.
And always amazes me how much dust there is. Did a wet sand between coats which helped (after the first coat much of the dust that blows up around the spraying is sticky, so the second coat was a little smoother. I wouldnt be happy if it was my car, but it dont suck too bad. For a tractor. Now the home stretch to put all the details in place. Was looking for a chrome decal and was going to chrome powder coat the grill, but wasnt able to find one so may just go with traditional. |

What a great finish on the tins yeeter! Always wondered what the wavy lines on the sides of these hoods were...all seem to have them...now I wished that I had filled mine and finished them like you did. We want the reveal!

Stickers, wiring clips, some touch up where the paint was scratched after running it all winter.
This batch of color seems slightly brighter than the previous (maybe just a touch of orange). Its very subtle though, so will wait until its outside in the sunlight to tell. |

Had painted the dash lettering with a silver paint pen last fall but it didnt hold up that well. Think it needs a clear sealer over it.
Then when going back together, found the hydro valve cover sitting there in primer.... guess will have to mix another batch of paint (which can be used for other touchups) And a seat! I need two (well, three actually). Where is the best place to buy a seat? Getting there... |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
