Yep. I agree with you. But although they are supposed to have that cap, I've seen them that didn't. I've seen even more with the cap, that didn't have the little rubber grommet that goes between the top of that cap, and the cover. No hole, no risk.

And the other way is to get a piece of pipe (or other round object) clamp it in a vice and bend the tubing around it. I do that when the bend is sharp, or over 90°.
A couple other ways to bend tubing, since it can be pretty easy to collapse, is a wire wound sleeve that slips over the outside. These can be cheaper than the tubing bender.

And in a pinch, I have filled with sand to bend (just be sure its clean afterwards!)

Another task added to the to do list I will patch the hole and on the little rubber grommet; when I ordered a few misc items a week or so ago, I ordered on of those, too so I'm good to go there as I've actually got the cap that goes over the air filter as well

Ok, Ok! Sam Mac and J-Mech, I did the other side

I got a jump start on tomorrows work tonite and here is as far as I got. I got the head off of the other side of the motor (drivers side right) and here is what it looks like. Note: Ignore the oil where the gasket was, that's from me.

That side looks good. Clean the dirty pig up and put 'er back together. Lets hope the oil consumption slows down.

Well I'm not sure about the oil consumption yet but here are a couple crappy pics of the oil lines after install. The shrouds aren't secured down and the grommets aren't installed so in these pics it's rubbing a bit but in the final product, it's all good. They're a bit shaky because after numerous hours in the freezing shop, my hands were a bit shaky I'm at work right now and doing some plowing after this somewhat unexpected amount of snow so when I get home, I'll know about the oil usage. Anywho, here's a video of it running after the work we did today. Hope she lasts the season!

What number NAPA filter is that? Do the side panels hit the filter?

Sounds and looks pretty good!! I think you may need to adjust the brake plate on the PTO

I don't hear the miss-fire I heard before. If the oil consumption problem goes away, you may not have to tear it down!!! Keep an eye on the oil level and let us know!!

Why was your PTO spinning? Was it on?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
