Looking good bud!

That looked like the Maggy in my 1811. Them suckers run dirty but keep on chugging along.

Yeah, it cleaned up pretty good. Call my dealer tomorrow to place a parts order, then the fun begins...
Good thing is the darn thing runs/ran so good, so theoretically it should run better clean.

Todd,

Doubt it runs better clean but I sure would bet it runs cooler!!

Nice job with the clean up!

The old Kohler "boxer" opposed twins never have really gotten the respect that they deserve... most of the failures were due to lack of service and or abuse.. I have several that have been really good engines... even got a KT 17 series I that has been running since 1980!

The original KT-17 had a pi$$ poor oil system with no oil pressure reg, they ran @ #5 usually, then folks started them up and flat peddled em, that starved the rods of oil.
Just picture a rod journal being splash lubricated by 30 weight oil, every other revolution, on any day much less cool weather.
Add to that some engines had sat unused a long period of time between uses, and remember when the engine is hot @ shut off the oil is water thin and drips away easily.
As we know the later series 2,and magnums cross drilled the crank for pressure lube to the rod journals and gave them a pressure regulator with at least #50+ cold.
So yes, the old double breasted flathead kohler is a song to appeciate, @idle or WFO with little shake rattle or roll.

Your power washer did a good job. Engine looks a lot better.

It always amazes me that an engine can just keep on keeping on when it is so full of dirt. I just took the engine loose in my 2084 and although thought I kept it pretty clean it also was a mess. You did a great job on yours. Maybe we should call you Mr. Clean.

Thanks for the heads up Sam, but I have two extra. So that's one part I don't need to purchase.

Back into the 1811 after a week of slacking.
Got all the gaskets, and seal, so it "should" be the end of the oil leaks. I HOPE anyway.
Check out the backside of the flywheel after I got in there with a screwdriver and loosened all the grass and s#$t...
Need to fab up some remote oil filter lines yet. Going into town tomorrow and see if Napa can help out in that department. There isn't anything salvageable on the old ones.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
