Ran into a few snags today. I was hoping to have the hydraulics all done and fired up today but of the 4 hydraulic fittings I ordered from Discount Hydraulic, one was the wrong size. Someone must have just grabbed them from a bin without inspecting them . And I need a JIC flare tool to redo the inlet line to the valve but nobody in my area had one...so now one is on order. So that kinda killed the momentum for the weekend. I was really excited to get it all done! I did get everything all painted, valve is mounted, and hydraulic lines ran. Still cleaning up wiring. As I wait for the hydraulic parts I started mocking up my tiller gearbox. I'll work on making the adapter plates tomorrow.

JIC is 37 degree flare, but a regular 45 degree will seal fine. BTDT.

I was wondering if a 45 would work. After all my work to get it together I didn't want to do a 45 and have it leak, lol. That is good to know it works though. Thanks J-Mech!

Great news today! I got my final hydraulic fitting yesterday, tighten all the lines up and fired up the tractor. After bleeding the lines the rear cylinder works perfect! Very excited to give it a full test tomorrow.
Only one minor thing; I thought I made sure all the holes would line up but it turns out the rear moved a little bit so I had to redrill them. I'll probably repaint the rear fender later this year. Next up is putting on the new decals!

I had to stop fab on mine til I could dig out the fenders. Figured on jigging it up. Wondered how you did yours. Sorry to see it spread on you. Still looks awesome though. Drop a fender washer in there and no one will see the elongated holes.
Hope to see it is action soon. And how the float is working. |

I had a little bit of an issue with the float. When I mounted the control handles the one for the 3 point didn't quite push the valve all the way down to "float." It pushed forward past the detent and stayed but I guess not far enough to open the hydraulic circuit. After a little adjustment of the control handle I got it to push the valve down a little more, looking at the valve now the shiny part of the valve is all the way in the body. It floats now, I can lift it up and push down by hand while it's running. Although, it seems like there is still significantly more resistance when I try to lift the arms by hand while it's in "float." Is there an adjustment on the valve body? I remember seeing screws on the front of the body but I didn't mess with them. Maybe the valve is a little stiff from lack of use or maybe I'm still not pushing the valve all the way. I'm loving the separate lift on the 3 point though. It makes the tractor much more useful, and fun!

I tested the lift with the backblade. Now with the 3 point seperated I don't have to take the mower carriage off, I can lift it up out of the way. Oh, and I put the new decals on!

Your machine looks better every time I see it. Have no idea on the adjustments, but the hydraulics will will have fair resistance just moving fluids. Typically the implement provides plenty of downforce to hold it on the ground. Or in the case of a blade, to dig slightly more than you want. lol
Hit a snag with my Rueger 3pt clearing the battery. Yours is made different I see. Will have to put up some pics. Kinda wish I had just built a new box from scratch. |

Here's an update on how the 1872 is doing.
Picked up a new reproduction seat off ebay; great quality and price. Old: New: I redid the drive shaft. I initially bought a drive shaft off ebay; turns out it had a slight bend in it which created a little vibration. To make it worse, when I made my hydro coupler it ended up being slightly off center...which created even more vibration. It was ok for a time but need to be redone. A shout out and thanks to Sam Mac for hooking me up with a factory hydro coupler! Old drive shaft top, new shaft bottom. Cut off the end spokes and rewelded them to the new shaft. Hydro shaft tapped and coupler installed. New drive shaft painted and installed. This thing is straight as an arrow now.
