At this point, I'm thinking I'm going to have to tear it down because she's still burning a bit of oil but I'll update as I know more.

Sounds and looks pretty good!! I think you may need to adjust the brake plate on the PTO

I don't know the Napa filter number off the top of my head but I'll check tomorrow and post back

As far as the PTO goes, I haven't touched that since I got it. Long story short, its obviously not the original as it's a dual pulley setup as opposed to a single pulley but it spins when it's not on. If I grab it, it stops so I'm guessing it's the gap that needs adjusted but seeing as how I've got plenty on my plate, it's not my top priority I'll adjust/work with it when I get the chance but right now, I'm more worried about the motor

I did try some MMO, not quite as much as you suggested (half a bottle) because I didn't want to go over the full line that much. Yesterday was a light day on it, only a couple hours total but I don't know how long it'll take to re-seat, if it's ever going to.

Ok, the results of the compression test are in, and I'm more confused than ever. I started with the drivers side left (the side that originally had the blown head gasket). I started by cranking at full throttle and it took right off running and I hit 120 then turned it off. I then put the throttle to idle and tried running it for a few seconds. Again, it took right off. That ran at about 50. And the first pic is of the spark plug from this side.

Switching to the drivers side right (the side I just replaced the oil lines on and also the head gasket). This is the confusing info. I was only able to obtain one comparable reading on this side. When at full throttle and cranking, I hit 80 but it wouldn't start, not even begin to. I then put the throttle to idle and tried starting again and, it wouldn't start (gauge would do about 50). The second pic is of the spark plug from this side.

What's the most confusing to me is that now that the oil lines are replaced and no longer leaking, and after yesterdays head gasket replacement, I'm definitely burning more oil, as evidenced by the spark plug pics (which btw sorry they're so dark. The plugs are black but not as midnight black as the pics make them look). Before yesterdays work, the only time I'd see any visible smoke would be when I'd quickly idle up. Now I see a bit of smoke when I bounce hard off the governor (pushing a big pile and wheels slipping, i.e., working it hard). I guess I don't see why it would seem to have gotten worse after replacing the other head gasket and oil lines. Guess we'll see what she's going to do tomorrow

You did the test wrong. Pull both plugs. Put the tester in hold the throttle wide open with no choke and crank it over. Then do the same thing on the other side. You don't want the engine to actually start that's why you pull both plugs.

Also you said it started on one cylinder but not the other? See if you have spark on both plugs.

Ok, let's try that again. With both plugs out

Tractor has both plugs out, full throttle:

Left side (originally blown gasket): 85

Right side (gasket replaced yesterday): 82

That sounds better. I'm not sure what the readings should be, my guess is Jon will be along.

Service manual calls for 90 PSI or better so you are in the area that calls for something to be done. Don't know if you have downloaded the service manual from the tech library if not you should. Look for M18 http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4648

Yep. Sam is right. 90 PSI at least is what you want. I don't like to see less than 100. Go ahead and run it, it won't hurt anything, but as I suspected, she's weak. Sorry bud, looks like an overhaul is in your future.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
