When you wrote, "This 129 was a gift from my granfather and sentimental to me", I thought it can't be all that "sentimental" if you are giving up throwing in the towel, and even considering selling it...
Be damned if something meant that much to me I would consider giving up. Stick with it, don't stop now... If it's a money/cost issue, park it for awhile till you save up some coin or find someone to stop in and help you...
It was your granddad's tractor and he left it to you. How could you even consider selling it? Pull up your bootstraps and stick it out man... It HAS to be something simple that's being overlooked.
Don't do something you'll regret one day, been there done that. Once it's gone, it's gone...
I wish you all the luck in making the right decision.
BUT it's your tractor...

Hey Guys and guru's, Lets's not let Adam, give up this fight.
That being said, with the great knowledge and experience within this group, this really cannot be this difficult.

That being said, to all the experienced CUB guru,s I ask we all read back through the thread, sort through what has or has been tried. I think the thread and troubleshooting was derailed by everyone, especially myself jumping around with hunches rather than informed and systematic diagnosis.
Adam my advice to you would be to allow one of the seasoned members ( Sam mac, J-Mech, Yosemite Sam) Just to name a few to walk you through the entire process, following each step that is requested from that member only. Do only what that member request and report the result of each step as requested.
With that I graciously bow out only to observe and watch for the triumphant solution.

As I read through this, there is a lot of " diagnosing" called that loosely of course. But for a true diagnosis, certain steps must be followed in a certain order, the results of each step dictating the next logical check to perform.
We have jumped around from one premature conclusion to the next, with out definitely confirming the result of each step. It is very difficult even for experienced people, to make diagnosis without actually being able to perform and interpret each step themselves, following only one set of instructions, and using only one interpretation of that test, let alone responses flying in from every direction.
You have never seen a some one trying to land a plane, or dis-arming a bomb on a partyline. LOL
We all like the challenge of solving "it", but this becomes a contest of sorts.
This is a result of the passion this group has for the little tractors.

Just my 2 cents worth.

In the opening statement we were told what he had already replaced and tried. now that being the case, that should be revisited and begin fresh with the proper diagnostic steps.
Best of luck, this too shall be resolved.
END OF LONG RAMBLE<
Have a great day all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
