Not sure the blower will hurt it. Just keep a close eye on the oil. If you have something else you can use that is in better condition I would do that but if the 1811 is it well Ya Gotta Do What Ya Gotta Do. I would try to rebuild it depending on what it needs and what it will cost or re-power it. If you can find a 2185 that runs good and is cheap they make good organ donors.

You may not have to go deep. Jugs, pistons, and rings. It won't be long and I can tell you if it's affordable. I have at least 2 KT's sitting in the shop waiting their turn. |

Don't forget the Gov gear that seems to be prone to failure. Last Mag 18 I had, had a window in the block from that plastic gear going south.

If it's got close to 800 hours on it considering it's age and guessing it didn't get the best of care that's about right for needing a rebuild. If it was one of those engines that was started and shut down often, (the start it mow for 30 minutes and shut it off) you have to consider the wear that takes place every time it goes from cold to hot. The pistons expand faster than the jugs as it goes through a heat cycle causing accelerated wear. If it ran 8 hours a day will get maintenance my guess is it could go 3000 or more hours.

I have a CH18/20 just waiting in the wings to be placed on my Super....
Thing is, my M18 with 920hrs runs like a beast....I just had to replace the front seal a couple of months ago but I had it out and milled the heads, new gaskets and both front and rear seals to include oil breather gaskets.... Cranks right up and purrs like a kitten... But the day I would sell that CH would be the day I throw a rod in the M18!!! I would take that Mag and run it till it drops....! |

How bad does it smoke and did you do a leak down test on it? Those testers are pretty cheap (less then $40) and will point you in the right direction.

No I did not do a leak down test on it and smoking isn't horrid, though its worse than I'd like. Quick acceleration in throttle? Puff of smoke. Run hard off the governor? Puff of smoke. I've even seen a super slight hint of smoke idling after running hard for hours.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
