Well frustrating day today, filled transmission with roughly 7 quarts. And got my wires all hooked up and such. New plugs, wires, coil, rotor. So it was really hard starting and smoked profusely while trying to start but once running it would smoke much less. It would run 30 seconds and die. It started twice. I cant figure out if its timing, valve adjustment, maybe its a blown head-gasket (the cap to the puke tank is missing which is suspicious) the carb could be dirty and not feeding enough to sustain fuel delivery? (The fuel hoses are very rotted) lastly i checked the trans fluid and it was completely dry. The trans has sat with the cover off for weeks, could it need more than 7 quarts?

I don't care if it's a Kubota or a Kohler, a decent fuel system is critical or it won't run. If you haven't yet pulled the tank, replaced every hose from the tank, cleaned the fuel shut off valves, replaced the filter and cleaned the carb. Your kidding your self expecting it to run well. Ask me how I know. Fuel, compression, spark or we no gonna go varoom.

Take some time and read through this thread about the 2182 I'm in the middle of now. The fuel system was a total mess. You can see what I did just to get it running so that I could decide if it was worth saving.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
