After you finish de-rusting the pans, I would build a nice hot hardwood fire and get a deep bed of coals. Place and completely cover the pans and let the fire go out by itself ( NO water or the cast iron will crack ). The next day remove the pans, brush off the ash and put some cooking oil on them to keep them from rusting. Season for cooking.

The high heat will remove any left over "stuff" and any seasoning that may be left. I would NOT use them without doing this.

I hope you had the sense to mix up a new solution so you aren't cleaning them in a solution contaminated with lead paint, grease, etc.

Default Final Stretch on the #1 tiller!

Guys I ran out of parts to put back together!
Picked up the belt from NAPA tonight (Thanks Wally) saved $60 compared to dealer cost. Finished installing the stainless hardware.
Installed the chains and depth adjuster. Touched up some spots.
I still have to finish the rear gear box for the tractor, get belt and pulleys too.

Thanks to all the Cub folks that assisted:
Duke, Todd, Allen, Matt, Cub 123, Wally, AJ Gross, I know I won't get everyone. Some final shots and maybe a before picture or two also.
Like most of the threads on OCC I hope this helps someone else tackle a Cub project.
Till the next project! (pun intended)
Regards,
Chris

Guys,
I lied, I am back. You really thought I would be gone just like that didn't you?
-I had to make a latch for the back flap. This is a little crude but may work? I couldn't figure out how the original one worked and it may have been light gauge spring steel? I just bent this from a piece of stainless strip.
- Shot of the mounting plate with gear box.
- Cleaned the gear box in and out.
- Made a new gasket.
- Refilled the gear box with custom 90 weight gear oil.
- Cleaned and primed the pulleys for the gear box.
Man I am glad to see that someone else is picking up the slack on tiller restorations! Viewed the other post earlier but suffering from sever CRS, so I will have to look who it is.
Humm pictures did not come thru. Will try that in next post sorry.
Regards,
Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
