What's the serial # on it? Looks just like mine. I'd say the hood on yours is a little nicer actually. Mine is a dual hydro/ series 1 as well.

The Onan to M18 swap isn’t exactly plug n play. I did it in my 1912. It bolts right in perfectly, but you have to wire a relay for the ignition because you’re going from points (needing power to run) to magneto (needing ground to turn off the engine).
You would need this for any swap from onan to an engine that doesn’t have points.

I love Onan's too!
Gary's Place is pretty hard to beat on prices for Pistons, rings, rods, gaskets and seals. DSCN2204.jpg DSCN2216.jpg I think it would be easier changing the oil pan and using a new starter. I had to switch the rear bearing plate(front of engine) so I could use the original 982 pto also. The one on the left is from a 982 and the one on the right was from a Grasshopper mounted pto. Surprisingly, no. The engine still runs pretty good on one cylinder. It even has a new starter. But I'll be selling the starter and the adjustable-jet carburetor when I get it pulled out of the tractor.

Aside from being able to use a CV driveshaft, is there any other advantage to using a Cyclops hydro pump with the splined shaft? I'm debating whether it would be worth swapping the pump with one from an 1862 or 1864. I might just be making this project more difficult than it needs to be.
Also, at some point down the road I would like to install power steering using the parts from an 1862/1864. Would I have to swap the pump for this too, or can I still use the original 782 pump?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
