Just out of curiosity, what would happen if one were to do that? By that, I am talking about replacing all of the fluid and not mixing the two fluids.

I have heard it's not compatible with the seals. I don't know why you'd want to do this anyway...the newer fluid is more expensive anyway, and there would be nothing to gain by switching to it.

I was thinking that since the new fluid is semi-synthetic, it might be better to use. But, I don't like experimenting on my equipment and wanted advice. Thanks Matt.

I recently purchased a 2-1/2 gallon jug of Hy-Tran Ultra from our local Case dealer. With tax, it was just under $50 and they had no desire to "fill my own container from a bulk drum" in order to save a few bucks. That's here in California.............I don't know how it compares to prices in other areas. To me, that doesn't seem cheap..........or even reasonable. I can only imagine what the cost of the "newer fluid" might be. I do enjoy the fact that I probably have the only 1872 in the entire state.........or so it appears.

At my local dealer here in PA, the new stuff sells for about $10 a quart, which is double what you paid!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
