AC

If you can't get it going I'll fix it up for you if you can haul it to my place.

Pretty sure the starter solenoid is under the seat next to the battery.

Sorry to hear of the 982 Allen, no worries I'm sure you'll get it up and running again, hopefully the new parts your ordering get it up and running again, good luck.

That's nice of you Sam,
That's where the solenoid is on my 2072, should be the same.
In order to jump the solenoid you take a small wire and touch each copper end from the small "s" post to the large post, or use a screwdriver, correct?

I wouldn't use a piece of wire, it may not be able to handle the current and it can be more difficult to control. I'd use a screwdriver and you jump the two large posts (take a screwdriver and touch it to both posts at the same time). This should tell you pretty quickly if it's your starter or something else. Good luck Allen!

Edit: Image is of a generic solenoid I grabbed from online, actual solenoid may differ slightly but the procedure is the same.

On both my IH 982s the soliniod is under the seat beside the battery you will see two threaded posts sticking out with two hot wires take a screwdriver and touch both posts at the same time don't worry about sparks the engine should start turning over hopefully it will crank if it does replace I have a bad soliniod on one of mine and that's how give been cranking it for two weeks now .

Thanks Sam, I really appreciate the offer! It will be too hard for Jenn and I to get the 982 in the trailer with it not running.

I also tried to look at the solenoid, and can't see it at all.

Hope you can get your 982 all fixed up soon. I love when you post pictures of it, it's a beautiful machine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
