X2 on the highest CCA you can get. I went to my local TSC and got this one; http://www.tractorsupply.com/mower-b...g-amps-4700042 it turns over my 14 HP well.

Other things I checked when I was having problems with mine:

grounds are all cleaned up, and tight.
Spark plug gap is correct
points are gapped correctly
I use 93 octane fuel in winter, it helps
park it inside, or get a heater for your rear end

I also put a batt. tender on my battery to ensure it's good before i want to start it.

I would do as Matt says, make sure you points are good and do the static timing.I did not believe it till I tried it and now would not do anything else. The 123 I had would start so much better after ,like night and day.

My tractor, a 126, has this starting issue. What is this s/g you speak of?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
