You may want to put one of these battery disconnect switches on until you can get the tractor fixed. At least it will isolate the battery when not in use. Just turn it off when your done mowing.

All of the dealers in my area quit selling and servicing Cubs all together. MTD did not want to pay their labor rates to repair the not so good new stuff.

Battery seems to charge just fine during mowing. I am generally able to start the mower for a day or two after I've mowed previously. Any longer and it becomes a luck of the draw kinda thing.

A wing nut on the negative cable would be my fix. It is sad to say what has become. Everyone has sold out.

I actually have a wing nut on the positive cable of all my tractors and unhook it whenever I park them, none of them drain the battery but its cheap insurance that the tractor will start regardless of how long it sit and keeps the points from getting burnt if my son is playing on them and leaves a key on.

What am I missing here?
It's a NEW machine it should perform properly! It has a warranty,---- wait long enough and it will expire. Did you or did you not call/speak to them? Did they give you a replacement battery? or did you have a good one on hand, that you tried? In my neck of the woods, TSC is awfully nice about making things right in the event of a problem. Best of luck!! |

Complain directly to Cub. The dealers have an obligation to fix all warranty work, just like car dealers. If they refuse, report them.

My new xt1 is doing the same thing. I also purchased this mower from TSC. What did you end up doing? what was the problem? Thanks

Around here, if you buy a Cub Cadet from a big box store or TSC, you take it back to them for warranty work. My local Home Depot and TSC will then ship your mower off to who-knows-where for repair, then ship it back. This process can take up to two weeks.
This is why I purchased my Cadet XT2 from a local Cub Cadet dealer. Interestingly, for the XT1, the Home Depot website shows, "No hour/3-year limited residential (including the power train) and 5-year chassis/front axle warranties" while the TSC website simply states: "Limited warranty." Regardless, it's a new product, it's not performing as designed (aka, manf. defect), therefore, return it to TSC. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
