I'm sure on hard surfaces the originals are fine. But I have a long stone lane and a stone parking area by the house and garage. The originals didn't do so good. It was not possible to keep the thrower out of the stone. With a bigger contact area of these, it lets the thrower just float along with no worries of grabbing stone.

I saw these online a while ago and contemplating a simple upgrade for my walk-behind so it stays a snow thrower instead of a rock thrower when the 4 inch factory skid shoes get caught.
