Hey guys,

Sorry to keep beating this thread. Just wanted to pick a few more ideas.

Well if any of you know that have been following this thread I have been having the issue of my engine running rich on the Twin 16hp Vanguard. It has been something pondering in the back of my mind about rebuilding the carb and this and that.

Well my Air filter and fuel filter came in today plus I bought the sea foam. Well as I was installing the fuel filter. I spotted the Carburetor mixture screw. I started to adjust it and WOW! The engine went from this motorcycle sounding idle like a "ba-bum ba-bum ba-bum" 'hard to imitate' idle to more of a smooth even run. Then the exhaust went from a very nose burning rich to a sweet more pleasant smell. The engine actually runs perfect now. That was after turning the mixture screw about two turns in. I never actually turned it all the way in.

I had gotten it to a point where the idle was good and smelled normal.

Well then I threw the new air filter on and buttoned it all up. Well a little while later I noticed it running slightly rich again. I would think this is because I adjusted the carb with out the air filter on and it's causing slightly less air flow?

Trying to figure out how to easily gain access to the mixture screw again without taking everything apart.

I swear with that one shield in the way it's like one screw driver is too long and one is too short... Cant seem to find a screw driver to fit past that metal guard on the engine easily... Anyone find a good length screwdriver to do the job?

Can't believe I forgot to check that mixture screw. Made a world of difference.

Ohh! Plus I poured some of that sea foam into the intake! That was interesting... Lots of white smoke and a oil like smell. I ended up pouring like a quarter of it into the fuel. have a 3/4th left in the bottle..

I bet if you adjusted your mixture screw back now it would run as it should. You probably had some debris around the needle. In past experiences I have seen the same things. But you may also find it does need some tweeking. Be sure to run it wide open under load and shut it down quickly and check your plugs to be sure its not too lean. Hope that helps.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
