Well, I got that linkage adjusted - went to test it and it wouldn't start. I think my ignition switch went bad. And my PTO died too, but a new amazon clutch fixed that.
Battery still has lots of volts. Leaving it outside last winter was not the best plan, but a barn is still a year or two out I think. Will have to find a cover or something for it once I replace the switch. Edit: The ignition switch was just dirty, cleaning it fixed that issue. And replacing the PTO cluth with a $100 amazon PTO fixed both that *and* made the battery charge much better, I think the old one was drawing way more power than it's supposed to. |

My 2084 has the same issue, almost will not reverse.
I have a 2063 I bought for parts. It has a good hydro, but I underrstand it's a different make than the ones in my 1864 and 2084. Any chance the valves are the same? |

The old fluid looked *way* more dirty in the pan than it did on the dipstick! There's no way it was new/recent. Adjusted the connecting rod, though I'm not sure it's perfect. It still has really weak reverse. It'll *usually* back up, and very rarely it'll back up extremely well, but generally the reverse is awful or doesn't work. And it still will pick up speed going forward unless I keep my hand on the lever. Didn't change the engine oil since the oil only has 8 hours on it, but I'm going to change it before the next time I use the mower because now it sounds like it it might have a rod knocking, and when I checked the oil it looked awful. Still full, but awful. :/ Kinda at a loss for what to do next. Any ideas? |

Down load the 82 series service manual. The 82 and the Cyclops are basically the same tractor. It tells how to properly adjust the linkage.

I am currently working on a 2084. It acted as you describe. The plates on the transmission wear excessively. Too much play causes weak inconsistent reverse. Numbers 16 and 22 in this diagram is what I replaced. I sourced them from CC Specialties. They are fantastic to do business with. I also shimmed #25 to reduce slop. If you a currently drive the tractor, with the tunnel cover off, move in reverse while watching your current linkage. CAREFULLY push the plates with your thumb, in the needed direction and see if the tractor responds favorably.
There is also a good video someone on utube has showing the excessive wear. Look for “sloppy cub cadet linkage”.

That's a good video set, thanks for doing that. I'll know what to look for when I get into my 1864, and probably the 2084
