Just a bit of wisdom I've learned in my old age "You can always afford to do it right the second time" That phrase has saved me a lot of $$$ over the years.

You know I like that saying, I think I'll try to remember that myself. I guess I'll go with right.

It was a two part problem really. I measured the crank incorrectly and reinstalled it when it was worn past the out of round limit. Also when I reassembled it, I had a common rebuild problem some people face where the bolts holding the end cap on the connecting rod started working their way loose. This ovaled the connecting rod, and damaged my crank futher.

I shut it down when I started hearing a knocking sound from deep within, and tore it back apart because I was scared I'd send the connecting rod through the block wall. Got the crank ground and reassembled it with a new 10 under connecting rod equipped with Posi-lock nuts instead of bolts. Runs great!

The shop in Terre Haute is Hapco. Their number is 812-232-2550. They do good work. Last Kohler crank I had done there was around $40.
