I would contact Kawasaki with your spec number and see what is needed. There are lots of good posts over on Weekend Freedom Machines and MTF but they are all on green tractors. I'm not 100% sure that the JD kits will work in our Cubs but maybe Kawasaki will know. If you do the repair please keep us posted because I don't remember seeing one done on here. Good luck.

I changed many of these plastic cams (usually the teeth broke off) on the Deere 425 and 445 models. It is an easy repair. However, follow the torque specs and replace the water pump while you are at it. Before torqueing the head bolts, start the bolts for the intake otherwise you may fight installing those bolts after the head bolts are tight. BTW, the replacement cam is steel. Cub enthusiast generally dislike this engine....I don't know why...it is a proven, very reliable and smooth running engine. Good luck and have fun with your new toy!

The steering issue is probably a worn steering cylinder. Here is the company that makes them for Cub and this should be the one you need. https://www.customcylindersint.com/p...-0637-717-3041 My 2084 had wandering issues. Steering wheel input was little more than a polite suggestion. Replaced the cylinder on both it and the 1864. Life is better now. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
