Is the diamond plate steel? It looks awful shiny for steel.
Also, you need to groove a deeper V to allow for better weld penetration. |

Next time watch the spark pattern when your cutting it with the grinder. I'm guessing there were minimal sparks when cutting the diamond plate and it gummed up the disc. You can can make an educated guess to an unknown base metal by comparing the sparks color and quantity with a know scrap piece of metal (steel, stainless, cast iron, Al). Lesson over

Ok folks, here we go again. I "found" some 3/8" thick steel plate at a freinds house. After a little bartering(12pack of beer), I brought it home, cut all the needed pieces again. This time, it all stuck together the way it oughta. Ground all the welds down and, presto!, all done. Now all thats left is to drill some holes. Stay tuned!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
