Do you know any body close by to swap out a couple of valves? Sounds like you have been pretty thorough in your trouble shooting.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. That's what I'm suspecting now are both the valves.
Yesterday when I replaced the filter there was a healthy amount of fluid in it, so I figured the pump was working. Today I checked the charge pump pressure at the test port with an oil pressure checker and it quickly pumped right up to 110lbs at max idle speed. I pulled the relief valve and the spring was in new condition. Everything inside the rear end and everything else on this Cub has been so clean and low hour that I can't imagine anything major. Unfortunately Cubs down here in Florida are far and few. I'm going to bite the bullet and order a couple of new release valves. That way at least I'll have some spares. The original 2 that were installed worked great but leaked a ton. After the rebuild they did great for a while, but I wonder if all the condensation from the winter temperature swings corroded/contaminated them from the outside in. We will see in a few days when I get the new valves in. |

Alright, thanks again for all your help and suggestions. I'm updating for those in the future who may come across this thread for their own troubleshooting. There are numerous posts on here I have searched and read through that have been helpful for myself.
I ordered new release valves from MachTech and they took 2 weeks to ship, but I just got them in and popped them in after picking a couple pieces of debris out of them. Everything runs and moves great now, so that's exactly what it was: the valves. I'm going to go through my rebuilt valves that were no longer working later on and see if there is anything obvious. I'm just suspecting from sitting and having condensation build up on the outside, they corroded or something, causing them to clog or fail. I am now back in business! |

Hey we're glad it worked out for you, we all learn a little by the responses others bring to the table. I'm at the age I print some of the info for later.

I just bought a couple of hydro release valves from him, and they seem to be in clean, ready to install condition out of the shipping box.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
