Hey J-mech, wadda ya mean dissasembly. It's right in the front of the motor. I think you could do it with a hand drill. Mike

J-Mech knows his stuff and is right, you have to split the motor to get to the governor. NOT worth it imho. Unless I was doing a full motor rebuild/refurb, splitting it to fix a governor that may or may not ever explode is more time/money/effort/work than it's worth.

ah,
no,
you don't have to do any dissembly to pin the govenor, it is straight fwd and done from the outside.
( unless the gov. Assy. has already fallen into the motor)

Here is what I posted several years ago:
Kohler service bulletin #246 dated 4/98 describes procedure for pinning governor shaft for M18, M20, MV16-20, KT17, and KT19, requiring one 1/8 X 3/4 inch roll pin.

Ok, well you said camshaft pin, not governor. So.... I kinda didn't read it the way it was written.

I know it's a SB, but I don't think that's a very good "fix". It was a Kohler "band aid" at best. I think Mike was getting at putting a pin in front of the shaft like we do on the "killer dowel pin" on the first gen Cummins 5.9's. I really don't think it's anything to worry about. I've seen more motors in the block for a broken rod, than with a punched hole at the governor. Not saying it can't happen....... But I'm not going to the trouble on any of mine.
