Yeah, I've seen international filters and pretty nasty fluid before. Or at very best old yellow Cub Cadet ones.

The 2086 and 2182 are both fantastic machines. The plastic cam gear is a ticking time bomb on pre '98 Kawasakis, as you are aware. With the lower hours and the Kubota WG, I'd go for the 2182 as the keeper. If you have the space to store both, I think many of us find that a backup tractor is essential until you get all the kinks worked out of the primary use machine.

If you want a really smooth operating hydro on either machine, spending time rebuilding the trunion and hydro controls for will make the unit much more enjoyable to use. We did a video series on the process here:

The steering on the Supers tends to get sloppy as well, we go through a front axle/steering rebuild series here:

The first thing, however, that I would recommend focusing on is the wiring. Cyclops machines are the most complicated electrically in the vintage Cub line and are particularly problematic due to corrosion and excessive resistance in the harness and switches. Finally, take care of your fuel lines and tank valves or you will have problems. Every Cyclops tractor should get this treatment before being put into service.

They are fantastic tractors, but like all machines they have their problem areas. Knowing what those are ahead of time will go a long way towards preventing frustration.
