Axel carrier
Thread sealant is recommended with direction of uses from the sealant manufacturer. I agree,.... it is a good idea when assembling axel carriers to the case. But, that brush-on crap can be shot to the moon. I would not hit a dead dog in the as$ with that crap. I recommend the spray can, or tube.

I used to use Permatex ultra gray on the bolts but have gone to the stuff Tom mentioned. Have not had a leak since. I'll probably continue to use the silicone one the tube gaskets but for the bolts I'm going to use the nasty goop. Just my 2 cents your results may vary.

Sam, last summer I had used that brush stuff, and showed the group here at OCC, and caught holy-heck for it. Now, I can't argue that it did not seal,..it is a very good sealer. My advice to anyone, is to use the Indian Head. Same stuff, same manufacture but the Indian Head has a nice cotton ball-swab, and the material does not get out of control mess wise.
Needless to say, I ran out the rest of that famous sealant that darn near started WW3 a lot sooner. The recommendations Tim describes make sense, as most of us know the carrier bolts run into the case acting like 3/8ths plugs. But having done many gasket repairs, the stuff in the spray can is just quick, mess-free, something like cheese-wiz.

Travis - The thread sealant you linked to appears to be an excellent thread sealant, but it still has the problem of a broken seal if it is repositioned later.
The Permatex TDS (Technical Data Sheet) shows that when using this High Temp Thread Sealant that "Parts may be repositioned for up to 24 hours after application". A year later when you retorque, you will be breaking the seal. With the knowledge that the axle carrier bolts occasionally need to be retorqued we need a sealant that will still seal after being repositioned at any time in the future. The Indian Head will have a similar problem as it is listed as "hard setting". If all these products didn't have a place in the world, Permatex wouldn't need so many. Most of them are excellent for the right application. I get that the brush in cap #3 can be less than fun. The #2 in a tube (that doesn't sound good) may be less of a hassle. There are probably other products that will work just fine, but it has to be one that will not lose the seal when retorqued. #2 is very easy to work with and easy to spread a thin film on gaskets. #2 is also tolerant of some surface contamination with oil, so it has a shot of resealing if you retorque a gasket that had a bolt come loose. I appreciate the welcomes, hope I didn't stir anything up here. I just saw a subject that I thought I could help with.
