I like this solution - I have a ditch that I have to weed-eat every week and I'm thinking about putting some crown vetch on it. For my other steep hills, I have a walk-behind Cub Cadet H1748. Works great on my hill.

I don't know if would use crown vetch. thats some nasty stuff if it gets in your garden. Plus it grows like crazy. That stuff got in our garden when the state widened our road and it just smothers everything.

I know how it can be - we had some in a flower garden when I was a kid. My dad gave me the "easy" task of taking it all out. Like trying to shake a can of paint until you don't hear the ball anymore.... needless to say, it was rooted in there pretty good.

When you guys decide what works best for ground cover in a ditch let me know... I have about 900 feet of highway ditch in front of my place that becomes more difficult to mow every year, I'm not getting any younger and I would like to do something out there that IDOT won't complain about before I get to the point where I can't cut it at all.

Maybe a 30' sickle that will go from one side to the other and I'll just cut it straight across so that it looks like there is no ditch there?!

I know that in Missouri, at places on the 4-lane highways that can't get mowed, they put crown vetch in. Not saying it's the best, I just know that MODOT does it. That's where I got my idea.

Default Flymo

I have thought about the same thing, or at least mount a gas string trimmer off the side of my Cub. The articulating arm would be a trick.....

Maybe you need a FlyMo...a flying lawnmower! It is a hovercraft mower and can still be found on Craigs List. I checked online and they still make them, but do not market in the USA. They work in any position and would reduce a lot of weight issues...the American ones were pretty light.

Cub 1641 - Accepted to settle a $400 debt
I got all of the original paperwork with my Cub! The buyer traded in something in for a $4999 credit, and used it to buy the 1641, a roller, wheel weights, box blade, mower deck & bagger, Ripper, Seeder, two sets of tires, and a trailer.
I added DOT headlights, tailights & flashers, a beacon, 3000 lbs winch, bumper & brushguard, 18 inch front tires, dump box, HD Exhaust, & scabbard.

Default Whitch-Ditch

The Best Thing I Ever Found For A Ditch Was Called ROUND-UP . Spray in the spring and late summer and never weed wack or mow again. Also Known As Kilz-all Generic Brand --Heck of a lot less money--

I second that roundup idea , I use the 48% strength twice a year on the fence lines and bar ditch , 4 acres of fence line and ditch takes me about an hour each time . Done for the year.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
