I don't mind the green as long as no one mistakes it for a John Deere!

This 127 is turning into a parts tractor on me. I stole some parts today to go on my 106. Good news the 106 started for the first time in 15 years!

I got to look over the 127 a little closer today and a lot of little things are missing or in rough shape. I noticed they bought the wrong coil from NAPA. A very nice 12v external resistor type and the electrical wiring has been redone, poorly. This isn't going to be a quick fix tractor.

Is there a way to test a hydro without an engine? I would hate to sink money into an engine rebuild only to find out the hydro doesn't work.

The hydros on the IH Cub Cadets are "considered" bullet-proof. It's very rare to find something fatal. There are numerous small issues that renders the hydro inoperable but can easily be repaired. Some of those issues are broken/missing driveshaft pins, bad/stuck relief valves, dirty/old filter and oil (change), some leaks (the famous cork gasket) and some other wear and tear issues outside the tranny. You might spare some change but this isn't excatly a money pit.

I'd wager a fair sum of money that the hydro works fine. Those things just don't go bad. You can chuck up the driveshaft in a drill and spin it if you're worried though.

The wiring in my 127 is pretty bad as well. Worse than my 125 for sure. You can build a new harness fairly cheap, or I'm pretty sure they are available for not too much.

That’s good to hear about the hydro being bullet proof. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a deal on the rest of the tiller pieces. Not sure how common they are. I could make good use of that in the garden. A snowthrower would look good on the front too. I’ve seen a few of them for $100. Is a qa42 too big for the 12hp? Would it work better with a 36?

I could build a harness for my 106 while I am at it for very little extra. The battery cables and starter generator cables are rough on that one too.

Is it odd that I get excited about a 106 and a 127 sitting next to each other in the garage?

You basically just need the tiller and possibly a mule drive depending on what is on that one. Shouldn't be too hard to come by. Sans gear box they go for maybe $150-$200 around these parts and a few come up a year. Belts are pretty expensive for them though.

You'll want a QA42A, but a QA42 will fit as well. Definitely not too big for the 12HP, though more HP is always better with a blower. The 12 HP was the "big" cub until the 147 came out, and it'll blow just fine with that 42" blower.
