Is the 60 Series Detroit a Detroit or a John Deere? Or is the Deere Powertech a Detroit? Both engines are almost identical and came from a joint venture between Detroit and John Deere...... Being that the Vanguards seem to hold up better than any B&S motor, I'm going to say they are more Daihatsu than B&S. |

I don't know and honestly don't care who designed them, they work and from what I've seen are about as idiot proof as can be. So far I have yet to see one that won't run no matter how stupid the owner is.
Now as far as an un-governed puller engine goes your on your own. Just my 2 cents but I'd have a serious blow shield around the flywheel if it was my feet in the explosion area if it was me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
