Yes it has the 4 speed peerless tranny in it, and I am not to sure how well it would hold up under the riggors of ground ingaugeing equipment even though they did offer snowblowers, snowblade and a tiller for use with it.

My plans for it is to use it for mowing the lawn, pulling the yard trailer and snow removal duty.

The 4 speed tranny is not all that high geared in 4th, ground speed is not all that fast and in 1st gear it creeps along real slow.

Either way I will find a use for it around here as all my cubs have to earn their keep or its hit the road.

With that said, some of my cubs don't get much use and are slow at earning their keep, but I am glad to have them around as I would not be able to do the work without haveing them around.

Lonnyb, enjoy that 582, it's good lookin no matter what. I have abused my fair share of peerless transaxles over the years, including pulling boats, pushing snow and pulling multiple kids on sleds. No problems at all.

Nice 582 sp. I don't think you'll have any problems with it doing some light snow removal and yard work.

sorry if my reply was a bit mean. I find it just a bit odd that Cub would make somthing that could not do BETTER than their past units. I hope I did not offend anybody. sorry

Smile Cub 582 Special

I was visiting the site looking for information on Cub Cadet 782s. I really enjoyed the other members posts about the 582 Special. I specially liked the photos posted by one of the members on his link. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. The pictures spoke volumes of the 582. Makes me want to break out the tools and start working on my 782.

Default 582

My brother has had his 582 for 15 yrs. Not a problem yet. I couldn't believe it was belt drive the first time I saw it. It is a very short belt and has never slipped. AS far as quality and strength. I'd take the 582 over ANYTHING that Cub builds now.

Agree with you there m8. I have a GT1554. Yesterday a small stick found its way into the belt-driven tranny and popped the belt right off the pulley! I was NOT amused when my tractor came to a complete stop in the middle of the yard...

My parents back in 2003 against my advice bought a 1525 (15hp kaw) with a little 38" deck for their 2 acre lawn. It's very hilly there. The last time I was there, that thing looked trashed out. It may have one or two season's left. I try to fix it up when I'm there but you can only do so much with such a cheap built lawn tractor. When this season starts I'm going to take my 782 down there and show them how a real machine should mow. Maybe I can get them to buy a gently used 3000 series.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
