Ironman,
I did check the lug nut and it is 7/16-14. I have been assuming it is the stock size as it is shown on the Cub website. From the discussion, it appears Cub used many different options, including lug bolts, studs and lug nuts, and possibly different sizes. I was hoping a plain old lug nut would be a simple and widely available item, but apparently not so much. I do plan on keeping my 782 and although it is a worker and not a parade machine I do want to make it nice, so I'll just go ahead & buy a set. Thanks for the input and advice!

I replaced the bolts with studs on a 149 a couple years ago. Got the parts from McMaster Carr
94846A520 jam nuts 98750A474 Studs 4991T964 lug nuts

Sam Mac - thanks for the part numbers. I may replace the studs with 7/16-20. It will give a bunch of options for pretty chrome lug nuts for about the same cost as replacing the stock ones.
By the way, my new tires are Kenda Terra Tracs based on your recommendation. Very happy with them.
